Patient Care Assistant

Location: Misrata, Libya
Department: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
Reports To: Charge Nurse / Nurse Manager
Employment Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

The Patient Care Assistant supports Registered Nurses and the clinical team by providing basic patient care and assisting patients with activities of daily living. The role focuses on maintaining patient comfort, dignity, hygiene, and safety while supporting the smooth operation of the Intensive Care Unit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with bathing, grooming, dressing, feeding, and other activities of daily living.
  • Measure, record, and report patient vital signs as directed by nursing staff.
  • Assist patients with mobility, positioning, and safe transfers.
  • Maintain patient hygiene, comfort, and dignity at all times.
  • Prepare patient rooms, beds, and basic clinical equipment.
  • Observe patients and promptly report changes in condition to the nursing team.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of patient care areas.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
  • Support nurses and other healthcare professionals with routine patient care activities.
  • Handle patient care equipment safely and appropriately.
  • Follow hospital policies, patient safety procedures, and professional standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Nursing Diploma, Healthcare Assistant Certificate, Caregiver qualification, or equivalent healthcare-related qualification.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 2 years of patient care experience in a hospital, healthcare, or clinical setting.
  • Experience in a cardiac hospital or critical care environment is preferred.
  • Previous experience working with critically ill or dependent patients is an advantage.

Education

  • Nursing Diploma, Healthcare Assistant Certificate, Caregiver qualification, or equivalent.
