Job Summary
The Laboratory Technologist II performs a wide range of diagnostic laboratory testing to support accurate clinical diagnosis and patient care. The role is responsible for processing and analyzing laboratory specimens, operating laboratory equipment and analyzers, maintaining quality control standards, validating test results, and ensuring compliance with laboratory safety, infection prevention, and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing in hematology, clinical chemistry, microbiology, and immunology.
- Receive, identify, label, process, and prepare patient specimens according to established laboratory procedures.
- Operate, calibrate, and perform routine maintenance on laboratory analyzers and equipment.
- Perform quality control testing and monitor quality control results to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Review, verify, and validate laboratory test results before reporting.
- Identify abnormal, critical, or inconsistent results and escalate them appropriately.
- Troubleshoot testing issues, instrument errors, and quality control problems.
- Maintain accurate laboratory records, reports, and documentation.
- Follow established laboratory procedures, protocols, and standard operating procedures.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of laboratory specimens and biological materials.
- Follow laboratory safety, infection prevention, and occupational health standards.
- Maintain laboratory equipment, work areas, and supplies in a clean and organized condition.
- Participate in quality assurance, proficiency testing, audits, and continuous improvement activities.
- Work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, laboratory staff, and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with applicable hospital policies and laboratory standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field.
- Current professional license or registration as required by the applicable regulatory authority.
- Knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures, quality control, and laboratory safety standards.
Experience Required
- 3–5 years of experience working in a hospital or clinical laboratory.
- Hands-on experience across multiple laboratory disciplines, including hematology, chemistry, microbiology, and immunology.
- Experience operating automated laboratory analyzers and working with laboratory information systems.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory testing procedures.
- Good understanding of quality assurance and quality control practices.
- Ability to analyze and interpret laboratory data accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS).
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
