Job Summary
The Dialysis Technologist is responsible for preparing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting dialysis equipment and related systems to support safe and effective renal replacement therapy. The role ensures that dialysis machines, water treatment systems, and associated equipment are functioning properly and meet required safety and infection prevention standards. The Technologist works closely with nursing and clinical teams to support the safe delivery of dialysis treatments.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and test dialysis machines and related equipment before each treatment session.
- Perform routine equipment checks, calibration, cleaning, and preventive maintenance according to established procedures.
- Monitor dialysis equipment during treatment and promptly identify and report technical abnormalities.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and coordinate repairs or technical support when required.
- Monitor and maintain dialysis water treatment and distribution systems to ensure appropriate water quality and safety.
- Perform routine water quality checks and maintain required testing records.
- Ensure dialysis machines, equipment, and treatment areas are properly cleaned and disinfected.
- Assist nursing staff with the technical setup and operation of dialysis equipment during patient treatments.
- Support the safe connection, operation, and shutdown of dialysis equipment as directed by clinical protocols.
- Maintain accurate equipment maintenance, service, testing, and inspection records.
- Monitor availability and condition of dialysis supplies and report shortages or equipment concerns.
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures throughout all equipment preparation and treatment activities.
- Respond appropriately to equipment-related emergencies during dialysis sessions.
- Participate in preventive maintenance, quality assurance, and equipment safety programs.
- Ensure compliance with departmental policies, equipment manufacturer instructions, and applicable safety standards.
- Collaborate effectively with dialysis nurses, physicians, biomedical/maintenance teams, and other healthcare professionals.
Minimum Qualifications
- Diploma or equivalent qualification in Dialysis Technology, Renal Dialysis Technology, or a related field.
- Professional license or registration where required by the applicable regulatory authority.
- Knowledge of dialysis equipment, water treatment systems, and infection prevention practices.
Experience Required
- 2–3 years of hands-on experience working in a hospital dialysis unit.
- Experience operating, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting hemodialysis equipment.
- Experience with dialysis water treatment systems and related monitoring procedures.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of dialysis equipment and renal replacement therapy systems.
- Knowledge of dialysis water treatment and quality monitoring systems.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good understanding of infection prevention and equipment disinfection procedures.
