Job Summary
The Cath Lab Technologist supports cardiologists and the multidisciplinary cardiac team during diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures. The role is responsible for preparing specialized equipment and supplies, assisting during procedures, operating hemodynamic monitoring systems, maintaining sterile technique, and ensuring patient safety throughout the procedure.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare the Cath Lab, specialized equipment, instruments, and supplies before procedures.
- Assist cardiologists and other physicians during diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures.
- Support procedures including coronary angiography, cardiac catheterization, and interventional cardiac procedures.
- Operate and monitor hemodynamic monitoring systems and related cardiovascular equipment.
- Assist with patient positioning, preparation, monitoring, and safe transfer during procedures.
- Maintain strict sterile technique and follow infection prevention and control protocols.
- Monitor radiation safety procedures and ensure appropriate protective measures are followed.
- Check, operate, and maintain Cath Lab imaging and monitoring equipment.
- Identify equipment malfunctions and promptly report technical issues to the appropriate personnel.
- Assist with emergency procedures and cardiac resuscitation when required.
- Maintain accurate procedure records, equipment documentation, and patient-related technical documentation.
- Ensure adequate availability and proper storage of Cath Lab supplies and equipment.
- Assist with room preparation and turnover between procedures.
- Collaborate effectively with cardiologists, nurses, radiographers, technicians, and other multidisciplinary team members.
- Follow patient safety, radiation protection, infection control, and departmental protocols.
Minimum Qualifications
- Certificate or Associate Degree in Cardiovascular Technology or a related field.
- Current professional license or registration, where applicable.
- Additional cardiovascular or Cath Lab certification is preferred.
Experience Required
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory.
- Hands-on experience supporting diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures.
- Experience operating hemodynamic monitoring systems and specialized Cath Lab equipment.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional procedures.
- Knowledge of Cath Lab equipment and hemodynamic monitoring systems.
- Strong understanding of radiation safety and protective practices.
- Proficiency in maintaining sterile technique and infection prevention standards.
- Strong technical and equipment-handling skills.
- Ability to assist effectively during complex cardiovascular procedures.
- Ability to respond calmly and efficiently during cardiac emergencies.

Education
- Certificate or Associate Degree in Cardiovascular Technology or a related field.
Required Certification(s)
- Current professional license or registration, where applicable.
Preferred Certification(s)
- Certified Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) or equivalent recognized certification.
- Additional training in Cath Lab procedures, radiation safety, or advanced cardiovascular technology.
