Job Summary
The Nephrology Specialist is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with kidney and renal disorders. The Specialist provides comprehensive care for acute and chronic kidney disease, electrolyte and fluid disorders, hypertension, and patients requiring dialysis. The role involves multidisciplinary collaboration and a strong focus on patient safety and high-quality renal care.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and manage acute and chronic renal diseases and related conditions.
- Evaluate and manage patients with Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) and Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD).
- Assess and manage patients with electrolyte, fluid, and acid-base disorders.
- Manage patients receiving hemodialysis and other renal replacement therapies.
- Monitor dialysis patients and coordinate care with dialysis nursing and technical teams.
- Evaluate and manage hypertension associated with renal disease.
- Interpret laboratory investigations, renal function tests, imaging, and other diagnostic results.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on patient condition and clinical findings.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, dialysis teams, and other multidisciplinary healthcare professionals.
- Provide consultation and specialist guidance for complex renal cases.
- Educate patients and families regarding kidney health, treatment plans, dialysis, medications, and lifestyle modifications.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and timely medical records and clinical documentation.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and evidence-based practice.
- Follow patient safety, infection prevention, and clinical governance standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Medical Degree (MD or equivalent).
- Specialist Degree or Board Certification in Nephrology.
- Current medical license or eligibility for medical licensure.
Experience Required
- Minimum 3–5 years of relevant specialist experience.
- Experience managing acute and chronic kidney diseases.
- Practical experience in dialysis patient management.
- Experience managing electrolyte, fluid, and acid-base disorders.
- Experience in a hospital or multidisciplinary clinical environment.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong clinical expertise in renal and nephrology medicine.
- Knowledge of dialysis management and renal replacement therapies.
- Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic interpretation skills.

Education
- Medical Degree (MD or equivalent).

- Recognized specialist qualification in Nephrology.
Preferred Certification(s)
- Additional training or certification in Dialysis, Critical Care Nephrology, or Renal Replacement Therapy.
