Job Summary
The Clinical Perfusionist will be responsible for operating the heart-lung machine and other extracorporeal circulation equipment during cardiac surgery while ensuring patient safety and providing optimal physiological support throughout surgical procedures.
The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in cardiopulmonary bypass, cardiac physiology, emergency cardiac support, and perfusion equipment management, with excellent attention to detail and the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary cardiac surgery team.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate cardiopulmonary bypass equipment during cardiac surgical procedures.
- Monitor patient physiological parameters throughout cardiopulmonary bypass.
- Prepare, check, and maintain perfusion equipment and related extracorporeal circulation systems.
- Ensure all perfusion equipment is properly prepared and functioning before procedures.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive perfusion records and patient documentation.
- Participate in emergency cardiac support and extracorporeal procedures when required.
- Monitor and respond appropriately to changes in patient physiological status.
- Work closely with cardiac surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and other clinical team members.
- Follow established clinical, safety, and infection-control procedures.
- Support equipment maintenance, quality assurance, and operational safety.
- Maintain a high level of precision and attention to detail during all perfusion procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical Perfusion Science or a closely related field.
- Professional certification and/or licensure where applicable.
- 3–5 years of professional cardiac perfusion experience.
Required Skills & Experience
- Hands-on experience with cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB).
- Strong understanding of cardiac physiology and extracorporeal circulation.
- Experience operating and monitoring heart-lung machines and perfusion equipment.
- Ability to respond effectively to emergency cardiac support situations.
- Strong clinical judgment and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain accurate perfusion and patient records.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure cardiac surgery environment.
