Overview

Multi-day training course to provide ELSO-approved advanced education for ECMO specialists.

Objectives
As a result of participating in this activity, learners should be able to:
  1. Describe foundational principles of extracorporeal life support, including gas exchange, pump mechanics, and physiologic implications for adult patients
  2. Describe the clinical conditions in which ECLS is appropriate for adult patients, as well as the key contraindications that may limit its use
  3. Demonstrate basic proficiency in recognizing how individual circuit components interact to maintain adequate flow, gas exchange, and patient stability
  4. Identify key concerns in the management of patients receiving ECLS, including physiologic instability, circuit issues, and multidisciplinary coordination
  5. Describe common complications that may occur during ECLS support, including patient-related, circuit-related, and management-related issues
  6. Identify and implement the correct response steps for common ECLS emergencies, including circuit complications, patient instability, and equipment failures in a realistic, high-fidelity simulation scenario
  7. Apply core ECLS concepts in realistic, high-fidelity simulation scenarios to support safe and effective patient management
