Minimally invasive mitral valve repair (MICS) with neochords combines a precise surgical technique with an advanced perfusion strategy to optimize outcomes.
The minimally invasive approach can be performed routinely, delivering excellent results across almost all mitral valve pathologies. In recent years, the mitral-MICS technique has shown strong evidence of low short- and long-term mortality and stroke rates. It has been associated with reduced postoperative bleeding, lower transfusion rates, shorter mechanical ventilation time, reduced hospital stays, less postoperative pain, and an earlier return to work.
In this post, we’re sharing the perfusion strategies and surgical techniques being implemented at Hospital Italiano de Buenos Aires, Argentina.
