Modified Simpson method (biplane method of disks) is a modality requiring area tracings of LV cavity.
The American Society of Echocardiography recommends this method for measuring LVEF. This method requires the measurement of LVEF by tracing the endocardial border in both the apical four-chamber and two-chamber views in end-systole and end-diastole. These tracings eventually divide the LV cavity into a predetermined number of disks (usually 20). Disk volumes are based on the tracings obtained from the study.
